Penis size depends on the genes, environment, and general health (e.g. sufficient blood flow). Micropenis is a medical term used to describe a penis which is shorter than 7 centimeters. This condition is usually inherited but can also be acquired after suffering from trauma, infection, burn, or cancer. Fortunately, penis enlargement, also known as penoplasty or phalloplasty, is a favorable option for those who wish to restore their functional penis size. Depending on the patient’s preference, penoplasty can enhance the length or the width of a penis.
A penis is lengthened by releasing a suspensory ligament. Suspensory ligament holds the penis closer to a pubic bone and allows for better support during sexual intercourse. After the release, a part of the penis shaft can be seen outside the body, creating a visibly longer penis. It is possible to lengthen the penis approximately 1 centimeter during rest and there is no change during erection. Penis lengthening surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete.
Girth enhancement is achieved by autologous fat transfer.
Circumcision is a surgical procedure which removes the foreskin. Adult circumcision is popular and getting even more common for its advantages with hygiene and aesthetics. Baby circumcision takes approximately 10 minutes and adult circumcision may take up to 1 hour to complete. As for every surgery, circumcision has certain advantages and disadvantages which should be known by a prospective patient.
Penis size is associated with masculinity, power, and sexual performance. Thus penis size is a sensitive topic for most men. Even average-sized patients declare that their size is too small. Penile dysmorphic disorder describes a man whose main concern is his penis size. Some men may even feel so self-conscious that they refuse to undress in public or be intimate with someone. Negative feelings towards oneself lead to stress, anxiety, depression, and sexual dysfunction, which makes it even more difficult to get or maintain an erection and experience sexual satisfaction. Psychology plays a very important role here and anyone who is concerned may wish to consult a doctor or therapist.
During the initial consultation, you will discuss your wishes and needs with a plastic surgeon and decide on a treatment plan.
You will be asked to cease smoking and consuming alcohol at least 8 weeks before and after the surgery. Smoking slows down wound healing and increases complication risks.
Blood-thinning medicines (e.g. aspirin) and supplements should also be strictly avoided for at least 10 days before your surgery (or when your doctor tells you to do so). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increase clotting risk and should be avoided as well. Bear in mind that if you fail to refrain from smoking and prohibited medication, your surgery may be postponed. Blood and urine tests are performed right before surgery.
Before leaving home, prepare easy-to-cook meal options, arrange good access to your favorite movies or magazines, and make sure to have the prescribed pain-killers as they will be needed during recovery.
A couple of days before surgery, shave your genital area. Arrive at the clinic wearing loose and comfortable clothing which is easy to put on and off. You should not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before your procedure. If you are taking daily medication, the doctor will advise you on how to take them on surgery day.
Genital surgery does not require long hospitalization, and so, you can expect to be discharged on the next day following surgery.
Usual activities may be resumed after 3 days, however, swimming, strenuous physical activities, and sexual intercourse should be resumed after 8 weeks.
Your penis will be covered in a surgical dressing and you will receive instructions on how to take care of it when back home. Only a small incision is made in the pubic area. It will be later covered by pubic hair, and thus, not noticeable.
Once you are back home, it is completely normal to experience swelling and discomfort. For pain management, you can take prescribed or over-the-counter pain-killers. Make sure to take enough time to rest and heal.
All surgeries come with a certain risk. Remember that complications are very rare and our specialists will do everything to avoid them. Some complications may include bleeding, infections, accumulation of fluid, blood clots, or nerve damage. If you have noticed something of concern, please contact your health care provider and our clinic immediately.
