Plasmolifting procedures in gynaecology
What is plasmolifting?
Plasmolifting therapy or platelet-rich plasma injections have been rejuvenating and effectively promoting tissue regeneration in Lithuania and around the world for several decades. They are not only highly effective but also considered safe and natural as they use the patient’s own blood product – plasma together with valuable platelets that have strong regenerative properties.
For its universal effect and physiological advantage, the treatment made from own blood does not cause side effects: plasmolifting procedures are used in a wide range of aesthetic cosmetology, surgery and medicine areas. One of such areas is gynaecology – the extremely good results here lead not only to solving female health problems but also improving the quality and comfort of intimate life.
What is plasmolifting in gynaecology?
In gynaecology, platelet-rich plasma therapy can be used for therapeutic purposes or to enhance female sexual life – often these goals overlap. During the procedures, depending on the need, the injections rejuvenate the tissues of some women’s internal and external genitals, and improve the condition of the labia and vaginal tissues. Platelet injections stimulate skin and mucous membrane regeneration and the natural production of collagen with elastin, which makes the tissues more elastic and firmer, and restores moisture balance.
Plasmolifting is an effective and natural way to improve female sexual function. This therapy can be used during menopause when vaginal dryness or atrophy – vaginal thinning is more common than usual due to estrogen deficiency.

Plasmolifting can be applied when:
- Degenerative external genitalia diseases have been diagnosed;
- There are long-term non-healing erosions or exhausting recurring vaginal yeast infections;
- It is desired to restore the tone of the vaginal mucosa, e. g. after childbirth;
- There is a goal to solve the problem of dryness: natural mucus secretion is restored;
- The vaginal mucosa is too thin, making intercourse painful or uncomfortable;
- It is desired to rejuvenate the genitals and restore their previous sensitivity;
- Stress-induced urinary incontinence;
- Aimed to improve the aesthetic appearance.
Why is plasmolifting so effective?
Platelets, or more specifically, the growth factors they contain, promote tissue regeneration and improve blood microcirculation and wound healing. The number of platelets injected into the required spot together with plasma will be slightly higher than the amount blood would bring naturally. Therefore, all regeneration processes start to act faster: the cells regenerate, elastin and collagen synthesis increase. Besides the growth factors, platelet-rich plasma contains a greater variety of biologically active substances required for regeneration processes.
Since plasmolifting at a particular spot that is chosen seems to trigger the body’s own regenerative (restorative) processes, the effect of the procedures is both natural and individual.
How are plasmolifting procedures performed?
Approximately 20 ml of blood is drawn from the patient‘s vein into the test tube. The sealed tube is placed into a small centrifuge in which plasma and platelets are separated from red blood cells by high-speed rotation. Natural and extremely valuable body products are extracted, which are used during the procedure.
Platelet-rich plasma is injected into the required areas with a very thin needle after topical analgesia. The procedure of drawing blood, preparing the treatment and injecting it lasts about an hour. After the procedure, the woman is fully productive and can return to usual activities immediately. However, it is recommended to abstain from sexual intercourse for the next couple of days.
Since plasmolifting procedures stimulate the body’s own ability to regenerate, both the result and the intensity of procedures are individual. It is recommended to perform 3 procedures every 3 months. The result is felt after the first injection and it improves in the long run as the stimulated regeneration processes take some time.
Before the procedures, it is required to come to the consultation with the attending physician; also, blood tests are recommended.
