When should one choose Buttock implants?
Buttock augmentation with implants is a surgical procedure which allows to reshape the buttocks and restore their firmness and volume. The implants are placed in the gluteus maximus muscle to ensure they stay in place and are not visible or palpable.
Augmented buttocks may not only help boost one’s self-esteem, but also regain a symmetrical body frame that might have been affected by rapid weight loss, aging and many other natural factors. The implants come in different profilesand sizes so that anyone can find their perfect fit for a more balanced and youthful silhouette.
Is Buttock augmentation with implants safe?
Safety issues concerning buttock implants have been a major topic of discussion since buttock augmentation was first introduced to the public. Today it is clear that the correct answer is way more complicated than it may appear. Looking from a medical point of view, when an object, such as an implant, is placed in one’s body, the immune system may recognize it as foreign and possibly a dangerous threat that should be eliminated. This might cause an immune response followed by common clinical features, such as fever, edema, etc. However, a possible rejection of an implant is an exception rather than a rule. All things considered, buttock augmentation with implants is rather safe, but in order to prevent complications, infection and / or damage to the vital parts of the body extra precautions should be taken.
Who is a proper candidate for buttock implants?
Preparation for surgery
The success of buttock augmentation with implants depends directly on a patient‘s determination to cooperate during the preparation period.
Here are some major pre-surgery tips and instructions that should be followed:
Practice healthy lifestyle. Exercising regularly, having your diet balanced and staying hydrated will strengthen your body and recovery after the surgery will be faster.
Avoid using tobacco products and alcohol at least 6 weeks before the procedure.
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and other blood thinners as they may induce bleeding during the procedure.
Consult a plastic surgeon about your allergies, previous surgeries, daily medications and significant medical conditions. If you have any pre-existing conditions that require daily usage of drugs, your operating doctor should be informed about it.
Follow your specific pre-operative instructions as they may vary depending on your personal medical history.
Recovery after Buttock implant surgery
It is important to remember that recovery after buttock augmentation is as important as the procedure itself and both time and patience are needed for it to be successful.
General recovery takes up to 2-3 weeks. During that time it is highly recommended to refrain from any activities that may put pressure on the gluteal muscles, such as bending over or laying on the back. It is strictly advised to avoid sitting on operated area as the implants may shift from their original position and the incision sites could start opening.
Bruising and swelling in the gluteal area may be present up to 5-6 weeks as a clinical manifestation of a local inflammatory response to a surgery. If it lingers on, a doctor should be consulted.
In some rare cases, the wound might get infected or an abnormal blood accumulation, also known as a hematoma, may form. In order to avoid possible skin and tissue damage, the surgeon must be informed about it as soon as possible.
Pros and cons of Buttock implants
Pros:
Cons:
What type of surgeries Buttock implants could be combined with?
Buttock augmentation may be performed together with liposuction and / or body fat transfer for even rounder buttocks and a natural-looking hourglass figure. In order to determine whether these procedures could be combined, one’s anatomical and physiological characteristics should be evaluated by a qualified plastic surgeon. People with little or no fat deposits in the abdominal area or thighs may only benefit from the implants alone as a sufficient amount of fat tissue should be present for it to be transferred. It is worth noting that excess skin and fat removal from the abdomen, also known as a tummy tuck, is not usually performed together with buttock augmentation due to a higher risk of severe complications.
Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Buttock implants
Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure that helps enhance the shape and size of the buttocks by removing excess fat from the hips, thighs, abdomen or other parts of your body and injecting it into the gluteal area. However, the fact that artificial implants are substituted with body’s own tissue may not indicate a better outcome. First of all, augmentation with implants guarantees a more reliable and lasting effect because the implants do not alter in size or form over time. When it comes to a Brazilian butt lift, only about 40-50 percent of the fat cells survive after being grafted and this can significantly alter the symmetry, volume and / or structure of the augmented buttocks. Moreover, fat injections into the soft tissue may provoke a serious condition known as fat embolism if the blood vessels in the buttocks are harmed by the syringe.
After Buttock implant surgery
When the buttocks are already enhanced, only a few more things should be taken care of for a smooth recovery:
It is required to keep the incision sites dry and clean after the surgery. Later on patients are highly encouraged to maintain their personal hygiene routine or adjust it to the doctor‘s recommendations.
Loose fitting clothes are advised for patient convenience as they are easier to put on and off.
It is absolutely normal to feel pain in the gluteal region in the first 2 weeks after surgery. It should be managed with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs personally prescribed by the operating doctor.
Patients are strongly discouraged from consuming alcohol and using tobacco products, especially while taking any kind of prescribed drugs after the surgery, for it may provoke undesirable side effects and / or complications may develop.
