Patients have an opportunity to stay in the apartments, supervised by our clinic. Apartments are located in the centre of Kaunas and most importantly, right next to our new clinic, in the same building (1 min by foot) and are provided with additional medical care (the nurse visits a patient at least once a day after discharge from the clinic), which is not possible while staying in a hotel or other accommodation.
All inclusive price, which is twice lower than in Western European clinics. Our clinic works with medical professionals of the highest education and experience level and uses the same materials as the clinics in Western Europe. More often than not, the quality of our clinic‘s facilities exceed the ones in Western European clinics. The price difference is only due to considerably lower average salaries and taxes – which is the main reason for medical travel everywhere around the world.
What is lip lifting surgery?
Upper lip lift, sometimes called upper lip shortening, is a surgical procedure which involves removing excess skin from the upper lip area in order to shorten its vertical length so the lips look firmer and fuller. Moreover, upper lip lifting results in a more balanced and youthful look as the face regains its natural symmetry that may have been lost due to age-related skin stretching etc. It is worth noting that the incision is made underneath the base of the nose thus post-operative scarring is almost non-existent.
Who is a proper candidate for lip lifting surgery?
A proper candidate for lip lifting surgery is someone with a significantly low vermilion border which is a margin between the upper lip and normal skin above it. This is a result of skin lengthening that is usually associated with aging or one’s natural anatomic properties. If the droopy skin of the upper lip hangs over one’s teeth with or without smiling, lip lift is just the right solution for a wider smile and more visible upper lip vermilion. Last but not least, a suitable candidate for lip lifting surgery should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the surgery results.
Preparation for lip lifting
In order to properly prepare for lip lifting surgery, a few pre-operative guidelines should be followed:
Practice a healthy lifestyle. Exercising regularly, having your diet balanced and staying hydrated will strengthen your body and recovery will be faster.
Stop using tobacco products and consuming alcohol at least 6 weeks before the procedure.
In order to prevent perioperative complications, taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and other blood thinners should be avoided, unless the operating doctor has advised otherwise.
Consult a plastic surgeon about your allergies, previous surgeries and daily medications. If you have any pre-existing conditions that require daily usage of medication, your operating doctor should be informed about it. Follow your specific pre-operative instructions as they may vary depending on your personal medical history.
Recovery after lip lifting surgery
Recovery after lip lifting surgery is usually fast and smooth. Here are some post-operative tips and useful information for a patient to know:
General recovery after the surgery usually takes up to 3 weeks.
Post-operative patients are expected to experience mild to moderate pain that should be managed with prescription medication for up to 1 week.
The stitches are usually removed in the first 4-5 days after surgery. If dissolvable sutures are used, they do not have to be removed afterwards. However, bruising and swelling may be present for up to 1-3 weeks as a clinical manifestation of a local inflammatory response to a surgery. If it lingers on, a doctor should be consulted as it may be a symptom of a wound infection.

It is recommended to avoid moving the upper lip as much as possible while eating, brushing one’s teeth etc. in the first week after the surgery for the incision site not to be disrupted.
Lip lifting scar may be noticeable in the first few weeks after the surgery and slowly fade into an almost invisible thin line later on. Unlikely abnormal scarring may be fixed with an additional surgical procedure, if necessary.
You can find more information in video format about post-op healing and revision surgery policy in the section “Explaining aftercare and revision surgery policy” here.
Can lip lifting be combined with facelift or other surgeries?
Upper lip lift may be easily combined with several other cosmetic surgeries, such as a facelift, rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, or facial implantation, for a more thorough facial rejuvenation. However, when several surgical procedures are combined, facial soft tissues are exposed in a relatively large area and so a greater risk of infection and a higher complication rate regarding wound healing may be observed.
After lip lifting surgery
Once the surgery has been performed, only a few more things should be taken into consideration for a smoother recovery:
It is required to keep the incision sites dry and clean up to 48 hours after the surgery. Later on patients are highly encouraged to maintain their personal hygiene routine or adjust it to the doctor‘s recommendations.
It is highly recommended to avoid applying makeup for up to 10 days after the surgery in order to avoid wound infection.
Patients are strongly discouraged from consuming alcohol and using tobacco products, especially while taking any kind of prescribed drugs after the surgery, for it may provoke undesirable side effects and / or complications.
As with any cosmetic surgery, some unlikely yet possible long-term complications associated with lip lifting, such as stiffness or numbness in the upper lip, smile deformation or in some very rare cases even speech impediment, have been observed. Therefore, an operating doctor should be immediately informed if a post-operative patient experiences these or any other undesirable symptoms.
