What is HD liposuction?
HD liposuction removes fatty deposits from the body areas where sculpturing is needed, usually the abdomen or chest. The procedure enhances solid underlying musculature and creates a visually pleasing appearance. Based on the muscular anatomy, certain body lines are emphasised or smoothened during this procedure in order to attain an appearance of a healthier, more “active” and muscular body.
HD liposuction is carried out under general anaesthesia:
Who is an eligible candidate for HD liposuction?
HD liposuction is a perfect choice for otherwise healthy and fit individuals who are struggling to reach a well-defined appearance. HD liposuction can also help those candidates with uneven fat distribution. The candidates should have firm skin and be within 10 kilograms of their ideal weight.
What is the difference between HD liposuction and traditional liposuction?
A traditional liposuction is a favorable option for those patients who wish to get rid of a more significant amount of fat (up to 5 kilograms). Even though liposuction patients lose some of their weight, the main purpose of the procedure is to create a beautiful shape by reducing the size of certain body parts, such as a waist, underarms, thighs, or even chin. Traditional liposuction is as well performed by moving a thin cannula back-and-forth, but it is a more forceful procedure leading to a longer recovery.
HD liposuction is mainly used to get rid of the fatty layer or localized fatty deposits that cover the musculature. The biggest HD liposuction benefit is a minimal tissue disruption which allows for a quick recovery and minimal bruising.
What results can be expected after HD liposuction?
HD liposuction offers a youthful appearance through fat reduction and skin tightening. You can expect to get rid of the fatty layer or fat pockets and be able to finally show off your natural structure beneath. HD liposuction is also successful at improving fat distribution and creating a highly aesthetically pleasing figure.
The first physical changes can be seen right after the surgery. During recovery, the tissues are healing and the fat cells are continued to be reabsorbed by the body. That is why it may take up to 3-4 months for you to see the final results. On the whole, HD liposuction sculpts the body and improves the elasticity of the skin, perfecting your natural shape and musculature.
Is HD liposuction permanent?
HD liposuction removes the superficial fatty layer or any fat pockets, therefore, the muscles become more visible and defined. Depending on one’s lifestyle HD liposuction can last from a few years to a lifetime. How long the results last depends mainly on the patient’s daily habits. A well-balanced diet and daily exercise are necessary for preventing weight gain.
How to prepare for HD liposuction?
During an initial consultation, you will discuss your expectations and exact goals with our plastic surgeon. Remember that it is key to be completely honest with the doctor. You should make sure to be in good physical shape. During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your medical history and health status with the emphasis on the recent cosmetic procedures, current medications, allergies, chronic illnesses, or other risk factors. The surgeon will recommend the exact approach and anticipate the outcome of the HD liposuction. You may be asked to purchase a compression garment before coming over for the surgery.
To determine your eligibility for HD liposuction, you may have several lab tests performed (blood work, urine test, ECG (electrocardiogram), and others.)
Note that smoking and alcohol consumption must be avoided at least two months before and after the surgery.
Various drugs and herbs can increase bleeding risk, and should also be avoided (aspirin, ibuprofen, CoQ10, glucosamine chondroitin, flaxseed, vitamin E, fish oil, green tea, chia seeds, primrose oil, and garlic). Make sure to drink plenty of water and consume enough proteins, vitamin A, and zinc, since they all are highly important for the quality of the skin.
To prevent regurgitation during the surgery, you should not eat or drink at least 6 hours before your surgery. Make sure to bring in any necessary medications you might need additionally. Opt for comfortable clothing and choose button-up shirts since they are easier to put on and take off.
Recovery after HD liposuction
Once HD liposuction is performed, you will be placed in a compression garment. The compression garment aids blood circulation by holding your skin tight which ultimately allows for a faster recovery. Depending on the particular case, a compression garment may need to be worn for up to 6-8 weeks. You can also expect to have the drainage tubes inserted. While in the hospital, antibiotics and anti-swelling medications will be administered intravenously.
Most patients experience moderate discomfort for the first couple of weeks. Pain can be successfully controlled with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
It is completely normal to experience a tolerable soreness, burning sensation, swelling, or numbness.
We recommend you take at least 7 days off work to rest and heal at home. Within 2-4 weeks you should be able to return to light activities, like doing housework. Complete recovery can be expected after about 8 weeks. It is when you can return to more strenuous activities and sports with your doctor’s consent.
What are the possible risks?
As for every surgery, there are certain risks to be aware of, such as minor swelling, or bruising. In extremely rare cases there is also a risk of infection, bleeding, skin damage, changes in pigmentation, or asymmetry. A patient can reduce the risk of complications by ceasing smoking and strictly adhering to one’s treatment plan.
When HD liposuction is recommended with other surgeries?
If a patient is eligible for combined surgery, performing a few surgeries during one hospital visit not only saves a significant amount of money but also allows for shorter recovery time. You may be offered to combine HD liposuction with several other surgeries, like skin tightening, tummy tuck, or fat transfer. When planning to choose a combination surgery, bear in mind that HD liposuction is generally recommended just for the individuals with a solid underlying musculature.
